Entertainment at Big Shot

Wayne Richards

Wayne Richards has entertained audiences with his unique piano/vocal styling at Big Shot ever since the doors opened in October of 2007. His repertoire contains a wide variety of material textured primarily in the "adult contemporary" mode.

Richards began his career in the seventies playing prime venues in the "Gold Coast" area of Chicago. In 1983, he left Chicago to perform for a summer season on Michigan's famous Mackinac Island. Continuing his work on the road, Wayne completed six successful tours in Scandinavia, first being hailed as the "Elton John of Chicago" in Norway and then completing additional engagements in Sweden. He became a yearly regular at the Sheraton Stockholm during Water festival time.

Although Wayne Richards is primarily known for his live work, he has made impressive inroads as a composer and recording artist. He has completed over 15 films scores. In 2008, Wayne received a SUMMIT MEDIA AWARD for " best original music score" featured on a documentary entitled, PURE ANTARCTIC.

Also a playwright, Richards original musical, A SUMMER STORM (an official 2006 Robert Redford Sundance theatre lab entry) is slated for a full stage production in July of 2012.

John Jones

John Jones' whole life has been centered around music. He heard The Beatles and Rufus & Chaka Khan from the time he was born. He had his first record player at age two. His first records? Not Mary Had a Little Lamb or Sesame Street...try The Ronettes, Beach Boys, and Heart. He started studying piano at age nine. After a pre-teen fling with Top 40 pop, he discovered R&B and jazz in high school, and shifted his piano training to classical. His 20's and 30's led him to electronica as well as the singer-songwriter movement of the 60's and 70's. These days, his influences are so varied, the best genre John can come up with for his music is...well, "music."

After the triumph of R&B diva Maysa recording his ballad "Everything" for her 2002 album "Out of the Blue," John's songwriting muse started working overtime: his catalog of originals is nearing the 50-song mark. A dozen of those tunes are featured on his independent debut album, "Homegrown." The CD is available on iTunes,, and When he's not recording or rehearsing songs for various piano bar shows around Chicago, John can be found working out at Cheetah Gym, challenging friends at Mario Kart, or relaxing with an episode of The Simpsons, Roseanne, or Saturday Night Live.

Andrew Blendermann

ANDREW BLENDERMANN mostly hangs out in piano bars (as a performer, not as a barfly), where his repertoire spans over 1700 songs. He entertains regularly at Big Shot in Arlington Heights, Mastro's Steakhouse in Chicago, and The Signature Room at the 95th. He spent a decade banging on grand pianos at Howl At The Moon in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Cleveland. He has played extensively at Villa Verone in Geneva and Elgin, Billy Berk's in Skokie, and Davenport's Piano Bar And Cabaret. Andrew has also been involved in the theater: onstage ("L.M." in Pump Boys & Dinettes - twice), offstage (music-directing Five Guys Named Moe at Drury Lane Evergreen Park), and in the orchestra pit (a year at the Marriott Theatre In Lincolnshire).

As a vocalist, Andrew has directed several a cappella groups (including the "Navy Pier Players", using his own arrangements), and he is currently singing with Chicago Voice Exchange, three-time winners of the Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes. Andrew also has produced the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival (Chicago Regional) since 2001, and plans to continue his work behind the scenes.
